After nearly 27 years on the A&E frontlines, I saw the same pattern again and again, in patients, colleagues and in myself.

I know that feeling well.

In my forties, I was exhausted, running on caffeine and ending most days like a zombie on the sofa.

I was snappy, impatient and far from the mum, doctor and person I wanted to be. Small things like traffic, laundry or someone asking what was for dinner felt like personal attacks.

I kept thinking, surely this cannot just be normal midlife.

Spoiler: it wasn’t.

I stopped masking symptoms and started listening to what my body had been trying to tell me for years.
